I usually write a little introduction for the newsletter before jumping in, but I’ll keep it brief today: the Steam & itchio pages of 「fulgor: i hate, therefore i am.」 are both live

The (temporary) cover of the game

Wishlists help a ton on Steam—I’d really appreciate your support!

i hate, therefore i am.

But what if you cannot hate? What if indifference drowns your rage?

Without the god of hatred, we do not resist.

Without Him, we accept poisons and treaties.

Without His rage, we seek shelter in our walled cities and ignore the cries of our brethren.

None fight the Sons of the She-Wolf.

Arnth, Curtun’s haruspex

The progress thus far

  • The last editing pass is progressing nicely! About half of Tuchulcha's route is left to do. I have decided to wait with the external proofreading until I have more assets, so I can make sure text and visuals match before sending everything in;

  • The game’s UI is done. I love it 🤩

An example of a traditional textbox…

…and a novel-style textbox.

  • Work on the soundtrack has begun! Since the game is set in 299 BC, I have decided to go with simil-ancient music. Greek modes! Aulos and lyres!
Very different from what we are used to. Given the lack of sources, it’s impossible to replicate ancient music with 100% certainty, so we’re aiming for a 60%. I’ll share more about fulgor’s music once some tracks are complete 😄

  • The visual assets for the demo are proceeding nicely.
    Here are some sneak peeks~

Turan’s priestess

The priestess that serves Turan, the goddess of love and beauty, is as graceful as her mistress is. I can’t go into too much detail about her, since revealing the source of her design would be a big spoiler, but it’s historically informed 😄

Arnth, Curtun’s haruspex

As an haruspex, Arnth studies the entrails of animals to interpret the will of the gods. His design is based on the museal reconstruction of an Etruscan man that lived in ancient Rusellae 😄

The arched gate behind him is also inspired by surviving Etruscan architecture (with some liberties added for flair ).

A new look for the newsletter?

I switched newsletter providers, or rather, was forced to (thank you, enshittification!). Unfortunately, all past issues of the newsletter failed to import, so if you want to read them again, they're available in your mailbox, without images, only if you received them.

Your data is safe: I have imported only current subscribers and purged the data stored with the old provider. The unsubscribe process remains the same!

The demo set to release soon™ will include the entirety of the common route. I plan to give newsletter subscribers advanced access to it, so stay tuned for more info if you want to play it before its public debut!

Thank you for making it to the end of this issue. Have a lovely day
