Greetings!

Rascal here. You’re receiving this email because you signed up for monthly updates about Rascal Devworks. Thank you for that!

I set up this newsletter as a hub where I’m not constrained by Twitter’s draconic character limit—because some news deserve some gushing, eh?

The cat’s been let out of the bag some time ago, but I’m so proud of it I want to write it one more time: Sigh of the Abyss is currently in development, and is slated for a late 2023 release!

This could not have been possible without WINGS, who funded the game. Thanks to their investment, the development of the game is going at a steady pace. I’m grateful beyond belief to have the opportunity to make Sigh of the Abyss as lavish as it deserves to be!

You can expect a dark tale filled with tough choices and rippling consequences that will determine your fate and that of everybody around you—just like Shadow Bonds, but on a much grander scale. You’ll play from the blood-soaked origins of the Envoy to the sweet (or bitter) end, determining your fate and that of Carolise in the process.

Here’s a preview of some of the many characters you’ll encounter in the sun-drenched streets of the city:

The young woman on the left already made a brief appearance in the teaser trailer. She works as a seamstress, but there’s something about her that sets her apart from the others… what could it be?

The blue jacket of the one in the middle a dead giveaway: this is a mage, and he belongs to the Halls just like Marané. The tinted spectacles he wears are actually a gift of hers!

If you have played Shadow Bonds, you’ll be familiar with the garments of the one on the right: she belongs to the clergy of the Lady of Dusk. She will recognize the protagonist from somewhere…

Which character interests you more—the seamstress, the mage or the priestess?

Candles flicker in the dark; their light dances on her hair, spilled like ink on the altar.

Above you can see a preview of the kind of visual upgrade intended for the illustrations of Sigh of the Abyss! It’s still a work in progress since I feel they are a bit finicky—they require work to ‘feel right’, especially the breathing. Too much and it looks comical, too little and it becomes unnoticeable.

JULY’S TRIVIA BIT: Sigh of the Abyss started as a micro-RPG that explored the concept of liminality. That’s still reflected in the nature of the protagonist!

Thank you for reading till here. See you next month with more news!-Rascal
